spirit animal

I made this as a Christmas gift for a very special snow leopard. Sculpey and acrylic paint, about 10 inches in length. I came up with a really cute name for it the other day but now I can't remember what it was.

Hope you enjoy! Happy Holidays!

in progress...

Hi! So, I've been working away the past week or two on a spirit animal as a Christmas gift for an awesome somebody. Sculpting is super fun because I'm never really sure what the results will be except that I'll probably make a huge mess and end up bleeding at one point or another during the process. A recipe for success!

I started with an aluminum foil and wire base to keep the shape, and then sculpted on top of that.  It was hard to make it kind of chubby and cute without being too top heavy, so I ended up playing with the proportions a lot.

The snow leopard slowly gets its spots...

Finished piece to come! Enjoy!

sketch jam!

I had a sketch jam recently with the amazingly talented artists Ruel Pascual, Jason Liwag and
Robin Fuqua. Ramen was involved; awesomeness ensued.
I wanted it to have a bow and arrow but I kind of ran out of space.

enjoy! happy holidays!

texas longhorn

I did this for work the other day. It's a different medium and different subject matter than I normally get to work with, and therefore was very enjoyable. Hope you enjoy!

all kinds of things going on! I did this little sketch during my break. I'm hoping to do that thing that really motivated and prolific artists do where they make one awesome thing every single day, but sometimes I wonder if I'm really cut out for a commitment like that. In any case, lots of projects going on, as usual. Stay tuned!

Margot

My piece for the 3rd annual Wes Anderson-themed Bad Dads show at Spoke Art in San Francisco! I wanted to evoke more of the character of Margot Tenenbaum - mysterious and secretive - rather than focus on her distinct style in a portraiture form like other artists have, which I admit I was very tempted to do.

This piece is available for purchase through Spoke Art's online store. Go forth!

upcomings!

I'm still working away on my upcoming show that opens November 10th at WWA Gallery in Culver City! Here's a shot of a recent work in progress. iPhone photos don't do this one justice - come see it in person if you can!

Also, I have a piece in the 3rd annual Bad Dads show at Spoke Art in San Francisco! If you're in the bay area next weekend for Halloween, make sure you check out the Wes Anderson-inspired show, which has a killer lineup and is bound to be unmissable. I'll post a pic of my painting for the show soon!

works still in progress...

Hello dear readers. I've been very hard at work for the past few months on a few upcoming shows.
Firstly, the new Wes Anderson-inspired show at Spoke Art in San Francisco. Last year my Bill Murray painting "Interesting Specimen" was a big success so I'm pretty stoked for this year's. I'm doing a Margot Tenenbaum piece this time, and hoping to depart from the usual portraiture-style depictions of her for something more story-driven... anyway, we'll see how it goes. I can't say any more so here are some tree branches from the piece.

Additionally, I'm also hard at work for an upcoming 5-person show at WWA Gallery in Culver City that opens on November 10th. I'll be doing a new series of drawings and a few paintings. I'm pretty excited about it. Here's a preview of all the stuff sitting on my drawing table:

ok, thats it for now... more to come!

moleskine part 1

Hello dear readers!
I'm finally back home after traveling abroad  for the past few months throughout Europe and the UK. I'm a big advocate of taking time off to refresh your mind and gain some new perspective, though I must say, it is so good to be back home - and with loads of doodles to show for it. I'll make this a two-part post, then, of some of my most recently completed moleskine.
